News, US 2 Comments on United States to provide 50 Bradley fighting vehicles to Ukraine

United States Department of Defense will provide Ukraine with 50 Bradley armored fighting vehicles as part of the latest weapons package in the near future, the White House announced on January 5, 2022.

According to Pentagon Press Secretary Air Force Brigadier General Pat Ryder, the advanced armored vehicles are “part of a larger shipment of equipment to Ukraine” that will be announced later.

Bradley fighting vehicles are manufactured by BAE Systems Land & Armaments and named after U.S. Army General Omar Nelson Bradley. The armored vehicles can transport infantry in combat zones with armor protection and also provide covering fire to suppress enemy attacks.

U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Ryder highlighted during a press conference that Bradleys have both offensive and defensive capabilities and provide “a level of firepower and armor that will bring advantages on the battlefield as the Ukrainian military continues to defend their homeland.”

U.S. Department of Defense release stated that “The United States and partner nations have supplied the Ukrainian military with the capabilities it needs to turn back the invaders including anti-armor capabilities, air defense equipment, armored vehicles, ammunition,” and military supplies.

Ryder added that “Ukrainian soldiers must learn how to use the vehicles and maintain them… this will be part of the training that Ukrainian soldiers receive from U.S. and partner nations.”

The U.S. Army has thousands of Bradley fighting vehicles. Analysts believe that with the procurement of Bradley armored vehicles, Ukraine would be able to use more firepower and suppress Russian attacks more effectively on the battlefield.

Last month, U.S. approved a record high $45 billion aid package for Ukraine, which included Patriot air defense systems. According to a senior U.S. military official, “Patriot is one of the world’s most advanced air defense systems, and it will give Ukraine a critical long-range capability to defend its airspace. It is capable of intercepting cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and aircraft.”

The U.S. Department of Defense release stressed that “the United States will continue to work with its allies and partners to provide Ukraine with key capabilities” to meet Ukraine’s evolving battlefield requirements.
