Russian troops getting closer to Afghan border amid Kunduz unrest
Asia-Pacific, News, US October 1, 2015 No Comments on Russian troops getting closer to Afghan border amid Kunduz unrestAccording to a report published by ValueWalk, quoting a Russian newspaper Kommersant, “Russia is set to redeploy its military troops to Tajikistan’s border with Afghanistan following a serious deterioration in the security situation in the region ever since US President, Barack Obama declared an end to the US combat mission in the area.”
It is interesting to note that Russian troops movement close to Afghanistan is taking place at a time when U.S. and NATO Special Forces have re-entered war in Afghanistan’s northern region close to Central Asian states.
Informed diplomatic sources told IRIA that Russian military observers believe that the “Taliban militants were intentionally encouraged to take-over Kunduz briefly so as to provide a reason for re-entry of U.S.-NATO forces in the Northern Areas close to Central Asian countries, Russia and China.
The Taliban have retreated or defeated after U.S. Special Forces entered into the area. Area experts believe that both Russia and China consider the presence of foreign elements in Northern provinces as a serious threat to their security.
The latest development has taken place in the background of reports that as many as 600 ISIS militants most from Chechen Brigades and Uighur-led Eastern Turkestan Party were planning to reach northern parts for possible penetration into Central Asia and China via Wakkhan narrow belt.
This development coincided with reports that Moscow is considering invitation to Pakistan and Afghanistan for joint military exercise in coming months.
