TUR is AMZ-Kutno’s line of 4×4 light infantry armored defense vehicles which was initially launched in 2007. TUR vehicles are designed for intervention and patrolling operations. Earlier models of TUR were configured to carry 5 personnel; however, TUR 7 can carry up to 7 personnel.
The TUR 7 unit that was unveiled at the expo was configured into an armored medical transportation vehicle. Other variants and configurations can also be made with the TUR 7 vehicles. It is fully armored with a hinged door exit at the rear back of the vehicle.
The design elements for most of the TUR vehicles are inspired by the U.S.-made Humvee armored vehicles. Similar to the Humvee, TUR vehicles can also be customized according to mission needs, making them highly adaptable. TUR 7 supports external weaponry mounted on the roof and at the sides of the vehicle.
The TUR 7 is powered by 6 cylinder Iveco Aifo Diesel engine that produces 285 Horse Power. With a gross vehicle weight of 12 tons, TUR 7 is loaded with 6 forward and one reverse gear transmission system.
AMZ’s TUR vehicles are armored under NATO’s standardized STANAG 4569 level 1 against small weapons and level 2 against large projectiles and explosives. This means that TUR 7 can withstand an explosion from 6 kilograms of explosive material, 2a mine explosion, and 2b mine explosion at its center. A level 2 armored vehicle can also stop a 155 mm artillery shell from a distance of 80 meters. TUR 7 can carry a payload of 1000 kilograms to a range of 600 kilometers.
Other basic dimensions of the vehicle are enlisted below:
- Length: 16 feet
- Height: 7 feet 9 inches
- Width: 7 feet 4 inches
- Wheelbase: 9 feet 2 inches
- Track width: 5 feet 7 inches
In 2009, when the first two prototypes of TUR 3 vehicles were completed, a series of mobility trials were conducted in India with the Indian National Security Guard. Apart from the Polish armed forces, the Indian Army has been one of the most frequent buyers and users of AMZ’s TUR armored vehicles.
