Oshkosh Defense, a U.S.-based leading manufacturer of military vehicles, has been awarded a $1.54-billion follow-on contract to continue supplying the U.S. Army with its Family of Heavy Tactical Vehicles (FHTV). The vehicles have been scheduled to be delivered by 2031.
The contract entails the delivery of new and recapitalized heavy tactical platforms, as well as their corresponding trailers, ensuring that the Army remains equipped with the latest technology and vehicles capable of meeting the demands of modern warfare.
The specific FHTV configurations ordered include the Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT A4), the Palletized Load System (PLS), and the Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET).
In his statement, the Oshkosh Defense Chief Programs Officer Pat Williams expressed the company’s pride in continuing its partnership with the U.S. Army and said, “We are extremely honored that the U.S. Army continues to invest in the proven Oshkosh Family of Heavy Tactical Vehicles.”
Williams further highlighted, “Our continued collaboration with the Army ensures that we deliver exceptional, high-performance vehicles with the latest technologies and active safety features.”
The U.S. Army initially placed a $231.9-million order under this program in June 2024, setting the stage for the continuation of the FHTV initiative. The initial order included various configurations of the HEMTT A4, such as wrecker, tanker, cargo, and load-handling variants.
In addition to the vehicles, Oshkosh Defense will supply Common Bridge Transports, related equipment, and kit installs, further enhancing the Army’s logistical capabilities.
Williams highlighted the importance of innovation in maintaining the relevance of the FHTV fleet. “The evolution of the FHTV through technical insertions and recapitalization is a testament to our innovation and focus on increased capabilities,” he said.
“By integrating new technologies into the FHTV fleet, we are not only enhancing operational efficiency but also future-proofing our vehicles to meet the evolving needs of the Warfighter,” he added.
Oshkosh Defense has built a reputation for producing reliable and technologically advanced military vehicles. Since its founding in 1917, Oshkosh has evolved from producing cement mixers and snow plows to becoming a global leader in defense manufacturing. The company’s expertise extends across a wide range of vehicles, from light tactical trucks to the heavy-duty platforms now being supplied under the FHTV program.
To date, Oshkosh Defense has delivered over 71,000 upgraded heavy tactical vehicles and trailers to the U.S. military and its partner forces, underscoring the company’s critical role in supporting military operations.
The latest contract ensures that the U.S. Army will continue to benefit from Oshkosh’s expertise and commitment to innovation for years to come, as they work together to address the challenges of modern warfare.
