News, US April 1, 2023 No Comments on Former US President Trump facing indictment from court for business fraudFormer President of the United States Donald Trump was indicted by a New York grand jury in a money scandal case after a year of investigation. Trump’s indictment comes at a time when he was in a full swing running a campaign to retake the White House.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, an indictment is a process of providing formal notice to a person acknowledging an accusation of their involvement in a crime. The notice contains basic information about the crime and the charges against that person. It takes place after a grand jury investigates all potential evidence to determine whether a crime has taken place or not. This is the first time that a former U.S. president has been indicted by a local court.
Donald has been facing legal troubles since he stepped down from the oval office. Some of these cases include his involvement in the January 2021 event of Capitol Attack. The current indictment comes in a case that contains more than 30 counts related to business and money fraud.
The grand jury of Manhattan voted to indict Donald Trump after months of hearing and investigation regarding a money scandal that involves a payment of $130,000 to a former adult star Stormy Daniels. Trump has been accused of using the money to buy her silence about an obscene encounter that had happened years before. She was paid the amount to stay silent during Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.
The jury finalized their decision after hearing Donald Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen. Cohen said that he had facilitated the payments for Daniels and another former model Karen McDougal. The former president has always denied his involvement with any of the women and said that the payments were made to him his reputation from false accusations.
The Manhattan court has not released a formal chargesheet against Trump, however, A spokesman for the Manhattan district attorney’s office confirmed the indictment and said that the prosecutors had reached out to Trump’s defense team to coordinate a surrender.
Trump’s defense lawyers, defense lawyers Susan Necheles and Joseph Tacopina said that the former president “did not commit any crime.” The legal team said that “We’re working out those logistics right now, We will vigorously fight this political prosecution in court.”
Trump’s supporter claim that the indictment and “political persecution” has been planned to damage his race for the oval office. The former president has been asked to surrender by next week. His first appearance in the court is expected to be a public proceeding. In case, Trump fails to appear in the proceeding, law enforcement departments would have to arrest him to bring him for proceedings in the courts.
Trump has denied any wrongdoings. In a statement released by the former U.S. president, he said that he has become a victim of political persecution. “I believe this Witch-Hunt will backfire massively on Joe Biden,” Donald Trump said in a charged statement.
“The American people realize exactly what the Radical Left Democrats are doing here. Everyone can see it. So our Movement and our Party – united and strong – will first defeat Alvin Bragg, and then we will defeat Joe Biden, and we are going to throw every last one of these Crooked Democrats out of office so we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!,” Trump said.
The indictment does not affect Trump’s bid to run for the U.S. President in 2024. Trump would continue to run his campaign for the next presidential elections until he has been proven guilty of the crimes.
