News, US May 19, 2015 No Comments on Florida shooting leaves one dead, four injuredAn incident of shooting in the US state of Florida has left one teenager dead and four more people injured, police say.
Two gunmen approached a group of young people sitting in an open area of an apartment complex in Miami-Dade County, located in the southeastern part of Florida, on Monday night and started firing what police believe were high-powered rifles.
Four men, ranging in age from 22 to 28, were injured and a 13-year-old, who was standing nearby, was fatally shot.
“It appears as if this child, we can call him a child even though he’s in his early teens, was standing around and was not a target,” police Det. Alvaro Zabaleta said. “Once again gun violence has struck one of our teenagers.”
The victims were rushed to hospital, where the teenager succumbed to his injuries.
Police didn’t issue the conditions of the four injured men.
According to police, the gunmen fled the scene and were still on the loose.
Every year, more than 30,000 people are shot and killed in the United States.
The US averages 87 gun deaths each day as a function of gun violence, with an average of 183 injured, according to the University of Chicago Crime Lab and the Centers for Disease Control.
About 4.5 million firearms are sold annually in the United States at a cost of 2 to 3 billion dollars.
