Police in Sarajevo have arrested several people suspected of “financing terrorist activities” for the “Islamic State.”

SARAJEVO – Police in Bosnia have detained 11 people suspected of links to the self-titled Islamic State group and militants fighting in Syria and Iraq.

“So far 11 individuals suspected of terrorism, financing of terrorist activities and recruiting ‘Islamic State’ fighters have been arrested in raids on 13 locations,” said a Bosnian police spokeswoman.

The operation targeted 15 suspects who are being investigated for “incitement of and recruitment for terrorist attacks.” Authorities searched several private homes along with two places of worship.

The suspects were believed to be in “close contact” with militants fighting in Iraq and Syria.

“During the raids, evidence has been found indicating connections with the ISIS structures,” said a statement from the prosecutor’s office.

Officials say the operation was continuing in 13 locations around the capital Sarajevo.

Prosecutors are targeting 15 suspects who have been investigated for “incitement of and recruitment for terrorist attacks” and believed to be in contact with Islamic State group militants, including persons fighting in Syria and Iraq.

A spokeswoman for the police directorate of Bosnia’s autonomous Bosniak-Croat Federation said: “Eleven individuals suspected of terrorism, financing of terrorists activities and recruiting Islamic State fighters have been arrested in raids on 13 locations.”

A local TV reported that around 100 police officers took part in the raids.

More than 150 Bosnians have left to fight for Islamic State in Syria and Iraq over the past two years, acccording to reports.
